Description: This program will cover an introduction to the new law, the new rights of consumers, the legal obligations facing businesses that collect information about California residents, and practical advice on preparing for the January 1, 2020 effective date of the law. The risk of non-compliance is significant, and fines for each violation can be up to $7,500.

Speaker Bios

Kathryn Rock, CPA is a Director within the Banking, Insurance & Capital Markets practice at Navigant.  Kate has over 15 years of experience advising banking and government organizations and auditing various financial services clients.  Kate is a proven engagement leader who provides solutions to clients managing major strategy, operational, regulatory, and financial changes.  She has successfully managed large, complex projects and has developed significant expertise through her experience in providing risk management, regulatory compliance, finance transformation, accounting, financial reporting, and project management consulting services. Prior to Navigant, Kate was an accomplished audit professional at a Big Four professional services firm. Kate has a B.S., Business Administration and Accounting with Special Attainment in Commerce, Washington and Lee University.

Suzanne Garwood is Executive Director and Assistant General Counsel in JPMorgan Chase’s mortgage banking department where she assists with the bank’s compliance related to mortgage production. Prior to joining Chase, Suzanne was outside counsel at two Washington DC-based law firms. While in private practice, Suzanne advised her clients with respect to compliance with consumer protection laws and advocated for her clients before the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Congress. She has her undergrad degree from Bryant College and her law degree from Ohio Northern.

Joseph Campbell leads anti-bribery, corruption, (“AML”) and financial investigations. Joseph’s experience includes investigation and assessment of cross-border tax matters through review and analysis of business and financial institution international investments and transactions. Prior to Navigant, Joseph worked at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”) for more than 25 years. He was the Assistant Director of the Criminal Investigative Division, responsible for a team of 6,000 Special Agents, analysts, and forensic accountants. While in the FBI, Joseph also held roles as a Deputy Assistant Director, a Special Agent in Charge of the San Juan Division, Inspector in Charge in the Inspection Division, and a Section Chief in the Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate. He holds his JD from Washburn and his undergrad degree from Kansas.
