WHF Foundation Spotlight: Open Arms Housing is Transforming Lives with Housing Support Services
Open Arms Housing, located in northwest DC, is one of the WHF Foundation’s nonprofit partners, having received grants from the Foundation for several years. Open Arms serves some of the hardest to reach homeless population, chronically homeless women, including those with mental illness. Their impact comes from removing long term homeless women with mental illnesses from prolonged street living or stays in emergency shelters, taking them from under bridges, sleeping in public places, using wheelchairs while living in shelters, and suffering from cancer while living on the street.
Foundation President Mary Martha Fortney said, “The WHF Foundation congratulates Open Arms Housing for their consistent work in helping some of the most endangered, vulnerable women from the streets to a supportive, stable living environment. We are proud to support to this important organization as it works to transform women's lives."
