Program Description: Mr. Averyt and Mr. Hoffman will discuss key findings of the recently issued GAO report, Federal Reserve: Additional Actions Could Help Ensure the Achievement of Stress Test Goals (GAO-17-48).GAO experts will cover the comprehensive set of recommendations GAO made to the Fed to help improve the effectiveness of the its stress test programs, such as improving disclosures and communications to firms, considering the potential consequences of its scenario design choices, and expanding model risk management to include the entire system of models. Our GAO speakers will describe the audit objectives that drove their work, what their methodology entailed, and the important conclusions the team reached as a result of their work. Join us for a robust, yet low-stress, discussion.


Speaker Bios: 
Kevin Averyt is a Senior Analyst in the Financial Markets and Community Investment team, where he has led performance audits across a range of financial markets topics, including financial institution supervision, the Financial Stability Oversight Council, bank capital requirements, and disposition practices for foreclosed properties. Before joining GAO in 2004, Kevin worked in consulting and mortgage servicing.
 
Michael Hoffman is a Senior Economist in the Applied Research and Methods team, where he contributes to a variety of GAO efforts to assess policy responses to global and domestic risks in financial markets and the macroeconomy, including assessments of the Financial Stability Oversight Council and economic sanctions.
